A WHITE LIE V. A BLACK LIE NOT ALL IS EQUAL

A WHITE LIE V. A BLACK LIE NOT ALL IS EQUAL

Ryan Lochte the longtime U.S. swimming star has been banned from competition until July 2019, which means the 12-time Olympic medalist cannot compete as planned in the national championships that start this week in California. He was banned from competition not for lying but for doping so add that to the Olympic medal swimmer's reporting that he and several team members were robbed at gun point outside their cab while returning to the Olympic Village in Rio. Not only did details in Lochte’s story change with subsequent tellings, but Brazilian police officials, a gas station security tape that apparently shows the swimmers kicking down a bathroom door and fighting with a security guard, but, Lochte’s own friends, contradicted his original account. Soon after Lochte started accumulating forgiveness from the US and life goes on.

The shocking claim that “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett staged an attack on himself is not only drawing an extraordinary rebuke from authorities but also from Chicagoans who say he took advantage of the racial tension simmering in the city and used it to selfishly promote himself comparable to what Lochte did.

If you compare both situations the white swimmer was forgiven by simply apologizing to Brazil and the Olympic committee and fans therefore he thwarted prison. He was not only a liar but he had a history of doping and drinking. Yet he remains an all American white boy who can continue his life and prosper. And those sponsors who reportedly dropped him will secretly pick him back up in time unnoticeable.

Smollett situation however is being handled much differently. Yes it did happen state-side and the Audience are Americans but the treatment will be and is turning out to be much different. He is a Black man who did something wrong but without the history of doping and drinking yet he will suffer greatly without being redeemed like Lochte the all American white boy. Not all is equal with Blacks and whites because punishments are usually set by the acts of Black Americans while white activities are swept under the system even if the same crimes are committed.
