How can Black Americans boycott Gucci and Prada when most of what they purchase are knockoffs. While African Americans make up just 14% of the population, we are responsible for some $1.2 trillion in purchases annually but very little of that goes towards authentic Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton apparel.
A boycott sounds noble but it doesn't bring any economical standoffs against those apparel companies one bit. Gucci announced Sunday that it would form an advisory council to address issues of diversity, inclusion and culture after the sweater debacle.
Besides what would any conscious minded African American be doing buying apparels that are triple figures in cost. Do you realize how many stocks you can purchase for $400 and $800. Besides Prada and Gucci has previously come under scrutiny for its lack of diversity both on the runway and in its campaigns and things still haven't changed.
