IN THE NAME OF JESUS WE SHOOT
The Civil Writer Magazine
As of December 25, 2019 the 359th day of the year, there have been 406 mass shootings in the U.S., according to data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks every mass shooting in the country. Twenty-nine of those shootings were mass murders. “The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon — and I mean very soon — come to an end,” said Donald Trump. Trump pledged to “liberate our citizens from the crime and terrorism and lawlessness that threatens their communities.” Actually under Trump gun violence increased and gun sales decreased.
Under former president Obama there was a fear of stricter guns control with guns being taken away. Therefore the fear increased gun sales during his 8 years. Under Trump guns sales slowed down because the past fear was gone even though Trump eased gun restrictions. The guns bought from fear of Obama administration are now being used for mass killings under the Trump administration.
Ignoring God’s Call to End Gun Violence, the faith-based group called the Evangelicals that advocates saving the lives of the unborn has turned a deaf ear to gun violence by supporting the Donald Trump presidency and his support of guns. Why? In the wake of the deadly attacks with 406 mass shootings from gun violence conservative religious leaders instead are doubling down on what they argue is their "God-given right" to bear arms. Of course, this laissez-faire attitude by the Evangelicals never chooses other issues like pornography, child abuse, poverty and war but two opposing features of life and death. Taking lives with guns and saving the life of a fetus.
