If the pastor decided to dismiss all portly men and plus size women from the church how many members would be left. However, I’ve noticed something that may negatively affect church attendance without that. The BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women.

for Black people in the church the BMIs are off the Richter scale. Call it Pews for the Portly! I’ve looked around and noticed that many, many people have problems with flesh retention. How many of these people have opted out of diets to be full on Jesus.

While taking in the Holy Spirit they are also taking in more fried chicken, potato salad, yams and sweet tea after service. Four out of five Black women are seriously overweight. The reason why this observation is made because the churches are predominately women assisting in that $174 billion spent on diabetes related illnesses. What we need is a body-culture evolution in the Black church. While you are outward living for Jesus you are inwardly dying with self.

Food happens to be one enjoyable aspect in Black culture. It brings people together and closer than ever, but it can also cause major issues within one’s own body if not kept in moderation. Poor diets among Black people can cause one to become overweight or even obese which can have detrimental effects on the body of the individual.
