PUT YOUR TITHES WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS

(Before I precede with my discussion; if you prove me wrong I will give the charity of your choice $50.)

Tithing is always introduced as a New Testament command although it was a Mosaic law. The law in a nutshell was simple to feed the Levites with your first because they didn't get an inheritance. In the Taryag Mitzvos, Mitzvah 395 states "For the tithes of the Children of Israel which they offer as a heaven offering to God, I have given to the Levites. Biblical tithes went to the priests (Cohens) and not God. According to Jewish law, tithes that were brought to the storehouse in Malachi were for the people.

It is better to use your money to eat or feed someone else than to think you are giving it to God. What would God do with currency from your local government. Besides, it is not from your first fruit so you have failed to honor the law anyways. Can you still give a tenth if you desire to do so, of course you can, but it is not a commandment from Jesus and neither is there an abundance of blessings for doing it.
