TAKE UP YOUR BED AND WALK
"WHEN CHURCHES SHOULD SHUTDOWN"
John 5:8 (KJV) 8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. It indicates a paralytic state with no movement until Jesus comes through with a miracle for an untenable situation. In the US 6000-10000 churches per year closes and the majority of them are African American churches. Why is this? There is a new demographic reality: The once solidly African-American baby-boomer church is not a viable source of tithes and offerings being many are retiring on a fixed income and the church is losing its diversity being no more generationally diverse. Many millennials are finding their own religious ways and are far from the days of being hand-held as toddlers. They are the major bread winners now with six figure salaries that are double and triple that of their parents. But sadly the church sermons are not capturing the intellect of those millenials who are more superior than their parents. Therefore a domino effect takes place in the church. Old sermons only capture old money which cannot keep up with the overhead of the church. Therefore many churches die spiritually and economically broke. There are reasons why many Protestant congregations have been more affective than others. 1. The preachers are educated, 2. The sermons are generational, 3. Technology driven, and 4. No longer an old uneducated deacon board and white glove wearing mother board. These are times for bachelor, master's and doctorate degrees congregations no longer two generation pulpits or pews remove from slavery. If you have 40 to 60 members for years why delay the pain. If Jesus hasn't said unto you, rise, take up thy bed, and walk you are not listening but that hardware chain and lock will show up soon.
