THE LITMUS TEST FOR A BLACK PRESIDENT ARE LIGHTSKINNED AND AN INTELLECTUAL
Over the years there have been a few African Americans who ran for president. A notable Shirley Chisholm in 1972, she became the first black candidate for a major party's nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.
In 1992 Alan Keyes was the first African-American candidate to run in the Republican presidential primaries. Keyes participated again, unsuccessfully, in 1996, 2000, and 2008. In 1984 it was Jesse Jackson. In 2004, Carol Moseley Braun and Al Sharpton were unsuccessful candidates in the Democratic primaries. Herman Cain a candidate for the 2012 U.S. Republican Party presidential nomination. But in the end it was a lightskinned African American named Barrack Obama who became the President of the US.
What chance does Kamala Harris has as a Black candidate? Well if we go back to ancient Louisiana when the brown paper bag test was used and apply it today Kamala Harris has as much chance as former president Obama did. Why is this? Because the brown paper bag test is still prevalent today even among white voters. The Brown Paper Bag Test in African-American oral history was a form of racial discrimination practiced within the African-American community by comparing an individual's skin tone to the color of a brown paper bag. White voters have expanded upon its use by using an intellectual test of the issues as well.
If you pay attention to the skin tones of Black candidates for president over the last 40 years, they have gone from Allen Keyes midnight black to Barrack Obama's mulatto tone. For those in the middle they fell short on the appearance of being an intellectual, that was not necessarily the case for individuals like Shirley chisholm who was dealing with the tailwinds of Jim Crow in 1972. But their skin tones did do them in. So, when you apply the two part litmus tests of skin tone via the brown paper bag and being an intellectual, Kamala Harris gets both whites and Blacks approvals. Never mind the white husband of Kamala Harris that reinforces the approval for whites.
